Description:
In 2003, the La Crosse Public Library and the City of La Crosse Planning Department worked together to create a historic comparison of intersections in the city of La Crosse, a sort of rephotography project.
Fifteen intersections originally photographed in July 1970 were selected, and duplicate photographs of the intersections were taken in 2003.
The original photos from July 1970 were used to demonstrate traffic flow and safety issues concerning several La Crosse city intersections. These were taken to accompany a grant proposal to the federal TOPICS (Traffic Operations Program to Increase Capacity and Safety) program. The program was an appropriation from Congress "to municipalities with a population of 5,000 or more for traffic operations projects designed to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate the movement of traffic." As a result of this project, La Crosse received federal money to improve at least three intersections.

"The La Crosse County Reconnaissance and Intensive Survey Report was funded through a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant awarded to the La Crosse County Historic Sites Preservation Commission from the National Park Service and the Wisconsin Historical Society, Historic Preservation Division in Madison, Wisconsin. The project was conducted from November 2017 to September 2018 by Barbara Kooiman, historian/architectural historian, with the assistance of Kevin Hundt, historian. Ms. Kooiman looked at four unincorporated townships in the County; Campbell, Medary, Hamilton and Bangor. In her field work she re-surveyed previously surveyed properties that were recorded in the Wisconsin Historical Society's Architecture History Inventory (AHI) database. She also added new properties which were constructed between 1950 and 1985 to the survey and database. Between the four townships, Ms. Kooiman added 70 new properties to the AHI database, finding a total of seven (7) properties which potentially meet the criteria for listing on the National Register of Historic Places."

Description:
The focus of this project is an examination of a house eligible to be recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, located at 1328 State Street in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The project discusses Victorian architecture as applied to family homes in La Crosse. This study pays further attention to the style of architecture known as the Queen Anne as it is seen at the house at 1328 State. This subject also includes the genealogy of the historic structure and examinations of its changes in architecture as a result of changes in the social conditions of La Crosse. Included in the genealogy is an examination of the residents of the house, starting with the Schilling family and leading to the current occupancy of the house by a UW-La Crosse sorority, Alpha Xi Delta.
