The first city directory for La Crosse was published in 1866. From 1866-1907, the directories are listed only by name. In 1907, the directories begin to include address listings. Married women were not listed until 1922, unless they worked outside the home or were widowed. This list of digitized resources represents a sampling, as the city directory was published every other year or so.
Note that due to copyright laws, only directories more than 60 years old are digitized and available online. Anything newer is only available in the phyiscal Archives. Both La Crosse Public Library Archives and UWL Murphy Library Special Collections and Area Research Center have complete sets. Please contact either library for more information.
